GARDUÑO (Flor).
Guardians of Time. Introduction by Carlos Fuentes. Grenoble, Arthaud, 1992. Square quarto, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket.
French first edition of one of the major works by Flor Garduño (born 1957), a key figure in contemporary Mexican photography. Trained by Manuel Álvarez Bravo, the photographer has developed a body of work deeply influenced by the indigenous cultures of Mexico and Latin America, blending documentary realism, poetry, and symbolism.
Published with an introduction by Carlos Fuentes, *Guardians of Time* brings together a series of black-and-white photographs taken in Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Peru. Volcanic landscapes, portraits of Indigenous people, ritual scenes, animals, and vernacular architecture come together to form a timeless world where light and texture lend the images an almost mythological quality. The large prints, reproduced with remarkable care, make this volume one of the most beautiful publications dedicated to the artist.
Condition: very good copy; hardcover and dust jacket in excellent condition; interior fresh.
