A beautiful photo book dedicated to the indigenous peoples of the Andean highlands of Peru and Ecuador. Through an extensive series of black-and-white photographs, Raphaël Gaillarde captures with simplicity and sensitivity the daily life of Quechua and Andean communities: high-altitude villages, markets, family scenes, farm work, religious festivals, portraits of children and farmers, as well as the monumental landscapes of the Cordillera. The book takes a documentary and humanistic approach, in the tradition of the great French photojournalism of the 1970s. The images, distinguished by their high compositional quality, bear witness to traditional ways of life that were still preserved before the profound economic and social transformations that took place in the Andes in the decades that followed. Jean-Pierre Lentin’s preface places this work in its ethnographic and cultural context, highlighting the richness of Andean civilizations and the enduring nature of their traditions.
