FAVROD (Charles-Henri) and MIDORIKAWA (Yoichi). - Lot 104
FAVROD (Charles-Henri) and MIDORIKAWA (Yoichi). Japan. Lausanne: La Guilde du Livre, 1959. Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with photographic dust jacket. A beautiful photo album dedicated to postwar Japan, combining the perspectives of Swiss journalist Charles-Henri Favrod and Japanese photographer Yoichi Midorikawa. The book offers a sensitive exploration of the country through its landscapes, cities, traditions, religious rites, theater, arts, calligraphy, daily life, and the profound changes in a society engaged in its reconstruction. The rich collection of heliogravure illustrations, printed in Switzerland, attests to the care La Guilde du Livre took with its major photographic publications, which rank among the finest European productions of the era. Condition: a complete copy with its illustrated dust jacket. The dust jacket shows slight soiling, some scuffing, and minor wear on the corners; the hardcover is in very good condition. The interior is fresh and clean.
