DOROTHEUM. Photography. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, Palais Dorotheum. Vienna, Dorotheum, 2007. In-4, illustrated paperback. Comprehensive catalog of the photography auction held by the Dorotheum in Vienna on May 9, 2007, to mark the 300th anniversary of the renowned auction house (1707–2007). The catalog brings together several hundred lots spanning nearly two centuries of photography, from the 19th-century pioneers to the great modern and contemporary masters. Notable works include those by Madame d’Ora (Dora Kallmus), Maurice Loewy, Wilhelm Burger, Man Ray, Helmut Newton, Herbert List, André Kertész, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe, Diane Arbus, Andreas Gursky, Cindy Sherman, and Richard Avedon, as well as a vast collection of historical, scientific, ethnographic, and documentary photographs. Each entry is accompanied by a reproduction, a detailed bibliographic description, information on the condition of the work, provenance when known, and estimates in euros and U.S. dollars. This volume now serves as a valuable reference work on the photography market in the early 2000s and on the valuation levels practiced by one of Europe’s leading auction houses. Numerous black-and-white and color reproductions. Condition: A good copy despite some minor signs of moisture affecting mainly the covers, with no impact on the text or the reproductions. Interior is fresh.
