DIMBLEBY (Jonathan). The Palestinians: One People, One Land. Photographs by Donald McCullin. Translated from English by Bénédicte Muller. Tunis: Sud Éditions, n.d. (circa 1980). Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. French edition of this major work by British journalist Jonathan Dimbleby, illustrated with photographs by Donald McCullin, one of the greatest war and photojournalism photographers of the 20th century. The result of several years of investigative reporting in refugee camps, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Lebanon, and neighboring countries, the book traces the contemporary history of the Palestinian people through a journalistic approach enriched by numerous firsthand accounts. McCullin’s images, taken at the heart of the events, constitute one of the most striking photographic collections dedicated to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Published at a time when few illustrated books gave such prominence to the Palestinian perspective, this book remains an important document for both the history of photojournalism and that of the Middle East. McCullin’s photographs, with their great expressive power, transcend mere news reporting to achieve a truly documentary and humanistic dimension. Condition: good copy. Dust jacket slightly rubbed with a few creases and minor signs of wear, no missing pages. Interior in very fresh condition.
