First edition of this catalog published on the occasion of the first major retrospective dedicated to Denise Colomb (1902–2004), a leading figure in postwar French photography. The exhibition revealed the full scope of a body of work that had long remained little known, combining portraits of artists, travel scenes, and photo essays taken in Europe, the Caribbean, India, China, and the Middle East. The book reproduces approximately 150 photographs, including the famous portraits of Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Antonin Artaud, Pierre Soulages, Henri Michaux, Samuel Beckett, Aimé Césaire, and Joan Miró, as well as numerous ethnographic images and travel photographs.
