Che Guevara (June 1928 – June 2003). By the photographers of the Cuban Revolution. Photographs by René Burri, Raúl Corrales, Chinolope, Alberto Figueroa, Alberto Korda, Liborio Noval, Roger Pic, Perfecto Romero, Osvaldo, and Roberto Salas. Monaco, Éditions du Rocher, 2003. Large quarto, publisher’s illustrated hardcover.
Published to mark the 75th anniversary of the birth of Ernesto “Che” Guevara, this volume brings together photographs taken by the principal witnesses to the Cuban Revolution. It constitutes a comprehensive pictorial album tracing Che’s journey, from the guerrilla campaign in the Sierra Maestra to the early years of the revolution, through images that have often become iconic.
The volume brings together the works of the great Cuban photographers—notably Alberto Korda, creator of the famous portrait *Guerrillero Heroico*, Raúl Corrales, Liborio Noval, Perfecto Romero, Osvaldo, and Roberto Salas—along with images by René Burri and Roger Pic. Together, these images offer an exceptional record of Guevara’s daily life, his travels, his speeches, and his military service, as well as more intimate and rarely seen moments.
Richly illustrated with black-and-white photographs, the book serves as an important documentary source on the iconography of Che and the visual history of the Cuban Revolution.
