CAMERA. - Lot 49
CAMERA. April 1964, No. 4, Vol. 43. Lucerne, C. J. Bucher S.A., 1964. In-4, paperback, color-illustrated cover. An issue of the prestigious international magazine *Camera*, a leading Swiss publication that ranked among the most important photography magazines of the 20th century. This April 1964 issue is particularly notable for its cover, which features a color photograph by Sergio Larraín (Magnum), Cave on Easter Island, as well as for the feature dedicated to him: “Mohais of Easter Island,” illustrated with color photographs by the Chilean photographer. The issue also contains a major article on Berenice Abbott, *New York 1932–1938*, photographs by Risto Lounema, as well as the technical and photography news sections that established the magazine’s reputation. During the 1950s–1970s, *Camera* regularly featured the biggest names in world photography—Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, William Klein, Ernst Haas, Sergio Larraín, and René Burri—in a print quality that remains the gold standard. This is an interesting copy due to the inclusion of one of the first major published portfolios by Sergio Larraín, whose contributions to *Camera* are particularly sought after today. Condition: well-used copy. Cover heavily scuffed and cracked; spine and head/foot caps worn with small losses on the spine; interior clean and fresh.
