BURRI (René). René Burri. Los Grandes Fotógrafos series, No. 46. Barcelona, Ediciones Orbis, n.d. (circa 1984–1986). In-4, illustrated hardcover by the publisher. A volume in the Los Grandes Fotógrafos series dedicated to Swiss photographer René Burri (1933–2014), a member of Magnum Photos since 1959 and one of the leading figures in international photojournalism during the second half of the 20th century. The book traces the major milestones of his career through a selection of his most famous images: photoessays from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia; large-scale architectural complexes; urban scenes; landscapes; and portraits. It also highlights the photographs that established his global reputation, notably his now-iconic portrait of Che Guevara (Havana, 1963), as well as his photoessays on Brazil, the Middle East, Germany, and major contemporary cities. Trained at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, René Burri developed an instantly recognizable photographic style, in which the geometric precision of his compositions is combined with a keen sense of photojournalism. His body of work stands today as one of the major records of the political, social, and architectural transformations of the 20th century. This edition, richly illustrated with full-page images, serves as an excellent introduction to the photographer’s work. Condition: Good copy. Some scuffing and signs of wear on the cover, slightly worn corners. Interior is clean and complete.
