AN AMERICAN IN EUROPE.
The Photography Collection of Baroness Jeane von Oppenheim from the Norton Museum of Art. West Palm Beach: Norton Museum of Art, 2000. Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket.
An important exhibition catalog devoted to one of the most remarkable American private collections of 20th-century European photography, assembled by Baroness Jeane von Oppenheim. Shown successively at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Frye Art Museum in Seattle between 2000 and 2002, this exhibition offers an exceptional overview of modern European photography.
The book brings together major works by the leading photographers of the avant-garde and the New Vision, including Karl Blossfeldt, Albert Renger-Patzsch, August Sander, Man Ray, André Kertész, Brassaï, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bill Brandt, Herbert List, Florence Henri, Germaine Krull, Bernd and Hilla Becher, as well as numerous representatives of the German, French, Hungarian, and Czech schools. Essays by James D. Burke and Baroness Jeane von Oppenheim trace the formation of this collection and shed light on artistic exchanges between Europe and the United States.
A copy with an illustrated dust jacket in good condition, showing slight signs of wear; the interior is fresh and perfectly preserved.
