TELLIER (Jules). - Lot 292
TELLIER (Jules). A significant collection of working manuscripts, critical notes, drafts, notebooks, and preparatory documents. Circa 1888–1889. A significant autograph collection consisting of several handwritten notebooks, autograph sheets, reading notes, drafts, bibliographic records, and preparatory documents that belonged to Jules Tellier. Jules Tellier (1863–1889), a poet, literary critic, and journalist, was one of the most promising figures of the young Symbolist generation. A contributor to *La Revue d’aujourd’hui*, *La Revue indépendante*, *Le Figaro*, and numerous literary publications, he exerted a notable influence on intellectual circles of the late 19th century despite his untimely death at the age of twenty-six. The collection includes, in particular: a handwritten notebook titled *Cahier de Notes*, signed “Jules Tellier” and dated September 1888, containing extensive working notes; several autograph pages devoted to reflections on philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, and literary criticism; drafts of studies on Homer, Greek tragedy, ancient poets, and various classical authors; extensive reading notes on Clarétie, Ferdinand Fabre, Paul Arène, as well as numerous contemporary writers; bibliographic records, lists of works, quotations, excerpts, and outlines; sheets bearing critical annotations intended for articles or lectures. The collection as a whole provides a remarkable insight into Jules Tellier’s intellectual workshop, revealing his working methods, his reading, his planned articles, and the development of his critical thought. Condition: the collection shows signs of use. Notebooks and loose sheets have creases, small marginal tears, wear and tear, signs of handling, some foxing, and minor damage without significant impact on the text. Preserved in their working condition.
