SÉCHÉ (Léon) (1848–1914) - Lot 287
SÉCHÉ (Léon) (1848–1914) Signed autograph letter, Wimereux, August 21, no year. 2-page autograph letter in-8, dated Villa des Fleurs, Wimereux, August 21, signed by Léon Séché. An interesting letter addressed to a fellow writer. Léon Séché thanks his correspondent for his kind letter and informs him that he is continuing to work on an important book devoted to Romanticism. He expresses delight at the favorable reception given to an article published in *Le Journal de Paris*, speaks warmly of Villiers—whose family gave him a warm welcome—and mentions several literary figures of his time, notably José-Maria de Heredia and François Coppée. Finally, he notes that he is preparing a series of columns while continuing to work on completing his book. A literary historian, critic, and biographer, Léon Séché devoted a large part of his work to the study of the Romantic movement and 19th-century writers. A friend to many contemporary authors, he published important works on Victor Hugo, Alfred de Vigny, Villiers de l’Isle-Adam, and the literary circles of his time. A beautiful literary letter that bears witness to the development of his historical research and his relationships with the leading figures of the literary world in the late 19th century.
