MINISTRY OF FINANCE. - Lot 240
MINISTRY OF FINANCE. Commission for the Compensation of Former Colonists of Saint-Domingue. Official letter regarding a claim for compensation. Paris, August 27, 1829. Printed administrative letter with significant handwritten notes, 2 folio pages, issued by the Ministry of Finance—Compensation for Former Settlers of Saint-Domingue - General Secretariat, dated Paris, August 27, 1829, bearing general serial number 9336. Important official document concerning the review of a claim for compensation filed pursuant to the Royal Ordinance of May 9, 1826, and the Law of April 30, 1826, establishing the compensation scheme for former French landowners dispossessed of their property in Saint-Domingue. The letter informs the claimant that the King’s Commissioner’s findings, issued on August 16, 1829, have been forwarded to the attorney handling the case. It invites the claimant to submit, within one month, any additional comments or briefs prior to the final settlement of his claims. The document also specifies the procedures for consulting the file at the Commission’s General Secretariat. Handwritten and addressed to Mrs. Arondel, residing in Cardiff, via Mr. Morel, rue Saint-Méry in Paris. Beautiful autograph signature of the Inspector General of Finance, Secretary General of the Commission. This document is a direct follow-up to the certificate of filing of a claim registered under the same number, 9336, illustrating the various stages of the administrative compensation procedure. Condition: generally good condition. Fold marks from mailing, some foxing, small tears, and marginal soiling that do not affect the text. Well-preserved for an administrative document of this importance.
