MILLE (Pierre) (1864–1941). Signed autograph letter. Paris, March 15, 1934. Signed autograph letter-card, 1 page, oblong in-12 format, dated March 15, 1934, addressed to Mr. A. de La Fortelle, president of Tout-Paris, 5 Rue Montaigne, Paris VIII. Postmarks from Paris—Commercial Court, March 15, 1934. A short letter in which Pierre Mille expresses his regret at being unable to attend a friendly dinner due to a previously scheduled trip. He writes, in part: “I’m sorry, my dear friend, but I’m leaving in a hurry on Thursday for a tour… so it’s impossible for me to attend Wednesday’s lunch at the Hôtel Mirabeau.” Before sending his correspondent his warmest regards: “My warmest regards. ” followed by Pierre Mille’s handwritten signature. A writer, journalist, foreign correspondent, and member of the Academy of Colonial Sciences, Pierre Mille was one of the leading columnists in the French press during the first half of the 20th century. His numerous contributions to major newspapers and magazines led him to cultivate a vast network of contacts in literary, political, and social circles. An interesting letter illustrating Pierre Mille’s professional and social obligations, addressed to André de La Fortelle, a figure in the Parisian “Tout-Paris” circle, and attesting to the cordiality of their relationship.
