MILLE (Pierre) (1864–1941). - Lot 231
MILLE (Pierre) (1864–1941). Signed autograph letter. Paris, November 28, 1932. Signed autograph letter-card, 1 page, oblong in-12 format, dated 28-XI-32. Pierre Mille regretfully declines an invitation, as he is already committed to another engagement. He writes, in part: “Alas, dear friend, the invitation came too late! I am already booked for lunch at the Café de la Paix with Cayla and General de La Porte du Theil...” He adds that it will unfortunately be impossible for him to change these plans: “Contrary to what is being said, I cannot miss several Natalian events.” The letter concludes with a particularly warm closing: “All our warmest regards, and our deepest regrets. ” followed by Pierre Mille’s handwritten signature. Writer, journalist, foreign correspondent, and member of the Academy of Colonial Sciences, Pierre Mille (1864–1941) was one of the leading chroniclers of the French colonial world. A contributor to *Le Figaro*, *Le Temps*, *L’Illustration*, and numerous journals, he maintained extensive correspondence with the political, military, and literary circles of his time. This interesting letter attests to Pierre Mille’s relationships with the intellectual and military elites of the interwar period, notably mentioning General de La Porte du Theil during a lunch at the Café de la Paix.
