PHARMACY RECORD AND APOTHECARY’S ACCOUNT. - Lot 222
PHARMACY RECORD AND APOTHECARY’S ACCOUNT. Medical Supplies and Pharmaceutical Preparations During the Revolution. Accounting manuscript on paper, 3 folio pages, dated 27 Germinal, Year III (April 16, 1795). Detailed inventory of pharmaceutical supplies addressed to Mr. Ortet (probable reading). In very good condition. A rare pharmacy record precisely listing the medicines, galenic preparations, and raw materials dispensed to a private individual during Years II and III of the Republic. The document notably mentions: orange blossom water; chicory syrup; calcined magnesia; brown sugar; theriac; quinine powder and syrup; ipecacuanha; tea; pansies; various compounded preparations. Each dispensing entry is accompanied by its date and price, with a final total of the amounts due. This document offers a particularly vivid account of pharmaceutical practice in the late 18th century and of the treatments prescribed at that time for digestive disorders, fevers, and various common ailments.
