STATEMENT OF FEES AND NOTARIAL EXPENSE STATEMENT. - Lot 221
STATEMENT OF FEES AND NOTARIAL EXPENSE STATEMENT. Accounting correspondence addressed to Mr. Castagnet. Manuscript on paper, 2 folios in-4, dated 1755. Private accounting document accompanied by a handwritten cover note. 18th-century cursive script. In good overall condition. Set consisting of a detailed statement of fees, deeds, and notarial services, as well as a cover note addressed to a correspondent named Mr. Castagnet. The statement lists various legal and notarial transactions carried out between March and May 1755: contracts, powers of attorney, assignments of rights, partitions, service of process, and other legal acts. Each transaction is accompanied by its cost, expressed in livres and sols, allowing for a precise reconstruction of local notarial and judicial fees in the mid-18th century. The document concludes with a grand total of the amounts due. The enclosed note states: “I ask Mr. Castagnet to send me a ream of paper at the price per sheet that I pay him, and he will oblige his cousin…” This is an interesting insight into the day-to-day management of business affairs, the circulation of legal documents, and accounting practices in provincial society during the Ancien Régime.
