MANGUET (E.). - Lot 216
MANGUET (E.). L.A.S., Paris, August 14, 1891, 2 pp., in-8 on *Le Monde Musical* letterhead, with the preserved, stamped envelope addressed to Mr. A. Jacquot, a luthier in Nancy. An interesting letter from E. Manguet, a contributor to the journal *Le Monde Musical*, regarding the publication of an article on the harp and the difficulties of producing an illustrated edition. He explains that the plate intended to illustrate the article could not arrive in time, having been delayed by the printer, which led him to publish the text without an illustration: “The plate has been made, and since I do not want it to be needlessly wasted, I am writing to ask you... .” He nevertheless hopes to publish the drawing at a later date, believing that it usefully complements the study on the instrument. The second part of the letter discusses the magazine’s operational difficulties, the sale of issues, relations with several contributors, and the publication’s financial situation. Finally, he promises to send a new article soon for publication in the next issue. An interesting collection offering insight into the day-to-day operations of a Parisian music journal in the late 19th century, illustrating the production constraints of illustrated periodicals as well as the relationship between the editorial staff and instrument makers. 2 pages, in-8 format, on *Le Monde Musical* letterhead, with the original mailing envelope preserved. Good condition.
