MAGNET (brother) Year 481. Franks armed with slings and bows. Reign of Clovis I. Original lithograph, finely hand-colored, based on a drawing by Magnet (brother), lithographed by Auguste Bry, from the series *Origins of the French Armies*. A rare depiction of two Frankish warriors during the reign of Clovis I, armed with slings, bows, spears, and swords. This composition illustrates the earliest Frankish military formations and is part of an ambitious series tracing the history of the French armies from their origins. A beautiful print on heavy paper, hand-colored. Engraved inscription: Year 481. Franks armed with slings and bows. Drawing signed “Magnet del.”; lithograph by Auguste Bry. A very fine copy with wide margins.
