LOUIS XVIII - THE KING'S HOUSE - Lot 206
LOUIS XVIII - THE KING'S HOUSE Certificate of Appointment as Privileged Manufacturer, Paris, May 15, 1817. Important patent printed on vellum (large folio) titled “House of the King—Crown Furniture Depots—Patent for the Manufacture of Carpets and Tapestries,” dated Paris, May 15, 1817, bearing a large red wax seal under paper and signed by several high-ranking officials of the King’s Household, including Baron de Ville-d’Avray, intendant of the Crown’s Royal Furniture Repository. This certificate confers upon Mr. Palliandrouze (probable reading), a manufacturer of carpets and tapestries, the title of “Manufacturer of Carpets & Tapestries for the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne,” with authorization to use this title in both public and private documents. Dated during the Restoration, this document provides a remarkable insight into the organization of the King’s Household and the system of privileged manufacturers tasked with supplying the royal residences. Patents of this nature were issued sparingly to the most renowned artisans and manufacturers, whose products were intended for the Crown’s palaces. A fine official document, preserved with its red wax seal in good condition, bearing several autograph signatures of high-ranking officials of the royal administration.
