LEGATION OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC IN PERU - Lot 195
LEGATION OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC IN PERU Signed autograph letter, Lima, January 19, 1908. 2-page autograph letter on 4-page letterhead of the Legation of the French Republic in Peru, dated Lima, January 19, 1908, with an unidentified signature. In very good condition. An interesting letter addressed to Mr. P. Barbet, an engineer from the School of Arts and Manufactures, residing at 173 Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, in response to the receipt of a brochure titled “Vinerie.” The author states that he read this study with the keenest interest and notes that he immediately forwarded it to Mr. Krischbaum, a French professor at the National School of Agriculture in Lima, so that he might review it and share his observations. The correspondent then asks for the professor’s thoughts on the matter, demonstrating the French diplomatic mission’s interest in fostering scientific and technical exchanges between France and Peru. This is an interesting account of the French Legation in Lima’s efforts to promote the dissemination of French agronomic knowledge in the early 20th century, illustrating the ties maintained between French diplomatic, scientific, and industrial circles in South America. Despite extensive research, the signature could not be identified with certainty. It may belong to a member of the French Legation stationed in Lima in early 1908, though no attribution can be proposed with sufficient certainty.
