LE SIÈCLE (Daily political and literary newspaper). - Lot 193
LE SIÈCLE (Daily political and literary newspaper). Letter from an unidentified contributor to Mr. Lapp. Paris, June 26, 1878. 2 pp., in-8, on letterhead from the newspaper Le Siècle. An interesting letter regarding a recommendation on behalf of Mr. Balliot, whom the author is seeking to have appointed as a mechanic for the Algerian railways. He states that he had intervened with Mr. Debroux to support this appointment, only to learn that the candidate had ultimately been placed “outside the competitive process .” He asks his correspondent to convey his deep regret to the individual concerned and reaffirms his complete devotion. This document illustrates the networks of recommendation and the ties between the major Parisian press and the administration during the early days of the Third Republic. The letterhead of the prestigious daily newspaper *Le Siècle*, then one of France’s leading political newspapers, enhances the historical significance of this correspondence. 2 handwritten pages. Good condition, with a slight tear at the edge of the last page.
