LE PAYS (Political newspaper). - Lot 186
LE PAYS (Political newspaper). Autograph letter signed by a contributor to the newspaper Le Pays (signed “R. Cavalié”), Paris, June 25, 1879. 1 p., in-8, on the newspaper’s letterhead. A brief handwritten letter addressed to an unidentified correspondent. The author states that he has been instructed to ask the recipient to “please refrain from speaking” about a matter or issue involving a person named Segrante (reading uncertain), adding that such discretion is deemed necessary. He concludes with the closing formula: “Please accept, Sir, my thanks and the assurance of my highest regards,” before signing “R. Cavalié.” This is an interesting example of internal correspondence from a staff member of the daily newspaper *Le Pays*, a Parisian publication founded in 1852, which was one of the leading political newspapers during the late Second Empire and the early Third Republic. The document illustrates the practices of confidentiality and the exchanges between journalists and press staff. 1 handwritten page on printed letterhead. Good condition.
