LE MONDE MUSICAL — MANGEOT (Émile) - Lot 185
LE MONDE MUSICAL — MANGEOT (Émile) L.A.S., Paris, March 13, 1906, 2 pp., in-4 format, on letterhead of *Le Monde Musical* and the *Annuaire des Artistes*, addressed to luthier Albert Jacquot in Nancy. An interesting business letter discussing the organization of the regional music movement, preparations for a violin-making competition, and the development of the Federation of Musical Societies. Émile MANGEOT (1862–1941), founder and director of *Le Monde Musical*, thanks his correspondent for his latest article, requests a follow-up, and inquires about the progress of the competition being held in Nancy. Above all, the letter reveals the efforts undertaken to structure the musical movement in the provinces. Mangeot outlines his plan to establish a regional committee in Nancy, intended to unite the region’s musical societies and serve as a liaison with the federal administration. He emphasizes the practical and moral benefits that the Federation would bring to the organization of the competition and to local musical life. In particular, he writes: “Your festivities would have been an excellent opportunity to bring the societies competing in Nancy into the Federation and to establish in Nancy the regional committee that would be responsible for the Federation’s administration of the region’s societies. ” He also hoped that Albert Jacquot and Mr. Tamy would serve on the jury, believing that their presence would ensure the success of the endeavor. The letter concludes with an urgent invitation to consider his proposals and respond promptly: “Please therefore consider my proposals… I assure you that nothing is more worthwhile. ” A fine letter illustrating the role played by Émile Mangeot in organizing French musical life in the early 20th century. It sheds light on the connections between *Le Monde Musical*, regional musical societies, and the great French instrument makers, notably Albert Jacquot, a leading figure of the Nancy school.
