LAFENESTRE (Georges) (1837–1919) - Lot 179
LAFENESTRE (Georges) (1837–1919) Signed autograph letter, Paris, December 31, 1917. One-page autograph letter on 4to-sized paper on the letterhead of the Patronage National des Blessés, 45 Rue d’Ulm, dated Paris, December 31, 1917, signed by Georges Lafenestre, president of the organization. A lovely thank-you letter addressed to the Director of “La Préservatrice,” thanking his correspondent for a donation of two hundred francs made to the Patronage National des Blessés. On behalf of the committee, the president expresses his deep gratitude for this generous contribution intended to aid the wounded of the Great War and assures the donor of his high regard. A writer, art historian, and member of the Institut de France, Georges Lafenestre played an important role in several philanthropic organizations during World War I. This letter provides an interesting account of how civilian institutions mobilized to support those wounded in the conflict.
