HUGUES LE ROUX (1860–1925). - Lot 166
HUGUES LE ROUX (1860–1925). Autograph letter signed to a correspondent in Reims following a stay in Reims. Paris (Le Temps), March 11, 1889. Signed autograph letter, 1 page, in-8 format, on letterhead from the newspaper Le Temps, boulevard des Italiens, Paris, dated March 11, 1889. A charming thank-you letter addressed to a correspondent in Reims following a stay in Reims with the Walbaum family. Hugues Le Roux expresses his deep gratitude for the warm welcome he received: “I take with me a lovely memory of Reims. I will never forget the kindness with which I was welcomed.” The writer highlights the quality of the hospitality extended to him and asks his correspondent to convey his regards to Mrs. Walbaum: “It will be a great pleasure for my wife and me to express our thanks once again during your next visit to Paris.” The letter concludes with a particularly warm closing: “Please accept my warmest and most devoted regards.” Beautiful autograph signature: Hugues Le Roux. 1 page, in-8 format. Letterhead from the daily newspaper *Le Temps*. Very good condition. A lovely letter of literary courtesy from Hugues Le Roux, written shortly after his visit to Reims for lectures or gatherings among the city’s intellectual circles. The document attests to the writer’s relationship with the Walbaum family, whose hospitality and kindness he recalls with emotion. This correspondence perfectly complements the other letters addressed to the same correspondent in Reims, which already mention his lecture plans, travels, and the friendships he forged in the provinces. The interest of this piece lies less in its public or literary content than in the human dimension of the account: it reveals a grateful Hugues Le Roux, attentive to social conventions and loyal to the relationships he forged during his travels. The letterhead of the prestigious daily newspaper *Le Temps*, for which he was then one of the most active contributors, adds further interest for collectors of press and literature from the Belle Époque.
