HUGUES LE ROUX (1860–1925). - Lot 158
HUGUES LE ROUX (1860–1925). Signed autograph card of recommendation to Mr. and Mrs. Walbaum. No place, circa 1890–1895. Signed autograph card, one page, oblong in-12 format. A brief note of recommendation addressed to the Walbaum family: “Mr. and Mrs. Hugues Le Roux send their regards to Mrs. and Mr. Henri Walbaum and recommend to their gracious hostess a friend—their aunt—for the charming summers...” The card is signed by Hugues Le Roux and attests to the friendly relations the writer maintained with the Walbaum family of Reims, to whom he frequently sent recommendations, tributes, and introductions to people in his circle. 1 handwritten page. Very good condition. A charming letter of recommendation from the private correspondence of Hugues Le Roux—journalist, novelist, and future senator—addressed to Henry Walbaum and his wife. This highly spontaneous note perfectly illustrates the social customs of the Belle Époque, when letters of introduction and recommendation were an essential part of social and intellectual networks. In it, Le Roux recommends a close relative to his friends in Reims, in terms marked by affection and trust. This document takes on particular significance when viewed alongside the numerous letters sent by Hugues Le Roux to the Walbaum family, which confirm the closeness and continuity of their relationship. It thus serves as a highly representative complementary piece illustrating the literary and bourgeois social life of the late 19th century.
