DURAN (Jori, 1894–1964). - Lot 129
DURAN (Jori, 1894–1964). Signed original lithograph—Greeting card from Éditions du Roumois for the year 2002. A beautiful fold-out greeting card published by Éditions et Diffusion du Roumois, illustrated with an original color lithograph depicting a young woman with her head bowed behind a large bouquet of wild roses and wildflowers, in a composition featuring harmonious shades of blue, yellow, and ochre. The print is signed in pencil by Jori Duran in the lower right corner and includes a handwritten inscription by the artist: “With best wishes from Duran.” The front also bears a handwritten dedication signed by Gérard Guay, founder of Éditions du Roumois. The inside page features an extensive biographical note on the artist, followed by a list of her major awards and international exhibitions. At the bottom is the note: “This original lithograph was created by Jori Duran, who provided the illustrations for the 2002 Exceptional Edition of Prosper Mérimée’s *Carmen*.” Oblong in-8 card (21 × 15 cm; 21 × 30 cm when open), printed on laid paper with fringed edges. Original color lithograph signed in pencil by the artist and accompanied by her autographed inscription. Second autograph inscription signed by Gérard Guay on the front. A very fine copy. A painter, draftswoman, and lithographer of Dutch origin, Jori Duran distinguished herself in bibliophilic illustration and floral compositions. As a contributor to Éditions du Roumois, she created several original lithographs for their deluxe editions, notably for Prosper Mérimée’s *Carmen* in 2002. Copies signed by the artist and accompanied by an autographed note are significantly more sought after than standard prints.
