CUSTOMS. Official notice of the appointment of Jean-Baptiste Pelluch as brigade inspector in Seyssel. Belley, January 1832. Printed notice of appointment with significant handwritten notes, 1 folio-sized sheet (printed on the front, addressed on the back), on laid paper. An interesting official notice issued by the Belley Customs Directorate, informing Jean-Baptiste Pelluch—then a customs brigade inspector in Voiron—of his appointment to the position of brigade inspector in Seyssel, with an annual salary of 2,000 francs. The document specifies the terms of this administrative transfer: the obligation to move to his new residence without delay, the effective date of the salary, the financial consequences of any delay, and arrangements for interim coverage of the vacated position until the successor’s arrival. Several contemporary handwritten annotations record the practical details of the handover of duties and observations regarding the execution of the transfer. The reverse side bears the printed address of the Customs Directorate, in accordance with the administrative forms of that period. This document serves as a natural complement to the ministerial appointment decree preserved in the same collection, illustrating the practical workings of the Customs administration under the July Monarchy and the career progression of Jean-Baptiste Pelluch after more than twenty years of service. An administrative document of great interest for the history of French Customs and the biographical study of active-duty agents. In good condition despite a few minor marginal losses and signs of wear, none of which affect the text.
