CUSTOMS. Letter of appointment addressed to Jean-Baptiste Pellut as brigade inspector in Petit-Vers (Besançon District). Paris, July 30, 1831. Printed administrative letter with significant handwritten notes, 1 folio page on an official form from the Customs Personnel Division (Series A, Personnel, No. 10), with a handwritten address on the reverse and postmarks. Official notice informing Jean-Baptiste Pellut, then a former Customs employee residing in Reims, of his appointment to the position of brigade inspector at the Petit-Vers residence, within the Besançon Directorate, with an annual salary of 2,000 francs. The document specifies the terms of taking up the position: the appointee must report to his new residence without delay, with his salary effective as of August 1, 1831, provided he arrives at his post before August 15. The letter is signed by the Master of Requests, Director of the Customs Administration, and serves as the preliminary notice preceding the official assumption of duties. The reverse side bears the handwritten address: “Mr. Pellut, former Customs employee, Reims,” accompanied by several postal and administrative stamps. This document is part of Jean-Baptiste Pellut’s return to his career following his service with the Customs Administration in the territories annexed by the Empire. It marks his reinstatement in the French Customs Service under the July Monarchy, a prelude to his subsequent promotions to the rank of brigade captain. Condition: satisfactory. Original creases, marginal tears, and small missing sections that do not affect the text; postal and administrative stamps are well preserved. A particularly interesting transitional administrative document in the career of Jean-Baptiste Pellut.
