CUSTOMS. Decree appointing Jean-Baptiste Pellut as brigade inspector in Potzenbrück (Posen). Customs Administration, March 31, 1826. Printed administrative document with numerous handwritten notes, 2 folio pages on an official Customs Administration form (Series A, No. 163), bearing handwritten administrative signatures and registration stamps. Official decree of the State Councilor, Director General of Customs, appointing Jean-Baptiste Pellut (born in Reims on August 7, 1777; entered the civil service on June 1, 1811) to the rank of brigade inspector in the Posen district, with residence in Potzenbrück, his appointment taking effect on April 1, 1826. The document outlines the regulatory duties of the brigade inspector: supervision of officers, customs enforcement, oversight of the enforcement of laws and regulations, drafting of reports, management of patrol routes, and disciplinary responsibility for the brigades under his authority. On the reverse side is the registration stamp of the Posen Customs Directorate, dated June 19, 1826, confirming the appointee’s assumption of duties. This document marks an important milestone in Jean-Baptiste Pellut’s career, corresponding to his assignment to the eastern provinces of the Kingdom of Prussia—then administered by the French Customs Service—prior to his subsequent promotions to brigade captain. It is part of a remarkable collection of documents chronicling nearly twenty years of his career within the Customs Administration. In satisfactory condition. Original creases, slight soiling, and minor wear along the margins, without affecting the text. A very fine printed and handwritten administrative document, preserved with its registration stamp.
