CUSTOMS. Official notice of the appointment of Jean-Baptiste Pellut as brigade captain in Fives. Charleville, December 4, 1821. Printed administrative document with significant handwritten notes, 1 folio-sized page on an official Customs Directorate form, with handwritten certifications at the bottom of the document; printed address on the reverse. Official notice informing Jean-Baptiste Pellut, then a mounted lieutenant, of his appointment to the rank of brigade captain at the Fives post, within the Charleville Customs District, with an annual salary set at 1,800 francs. The document instructs him to report to his new post without delay in order to receive his salary effective the first day of the following month, in accordance with administrative regulations. The sections at the bottom contain handwritten certifications confirming the appointee’s arrival at his new post, dated December 18, 1821, and bear the signatures of the relevant local authorities.
