CUSTOMS. Appointment of Jean-Baptiste Pelluch as brigade inspector in Seyssel. Paris, January 19, 1832. Printed decree with handwritten additions, 4 folio pages (1 folded printed sheet), signed, with handwritten administrative endorsements. Official decree of the Customs Administration appointing Jean-Baptiste Pelluch (born in Reims on August 7, 1777) to the position of brigade inspector in Seyssel, within the Belley Customs District, with his appointment taking effect on January 1, 1832. The document outlines all the duties of the brigade inspector: supervising district officials, collecting customs duties and other levies, combating fraud, drafting and signing of official reports, regular patrols both day and night, oversight of the performance of duties, monthly submission of reports to the inspector and the director, as well as the obligation to take an oath before the competent court. The decree bears the handwritten signatures of the heads of the Customs Administration and includes handwritten notes specifying the appointment of Jean-Baptiste Pelluch, including details of his civil status, his entry into the administration on June 1, 1811, and the recognition of his years of service for retirement purposes. This document attests to the continuation of the career of Jean-Baptiste Pelluch, a former lieutenant in the Customs Service under the First Empire, who remained in the service under the July Monarchy, illustrating the continuity of customs personnel across different political regimes. A fine, well-preserved copy with original handwritten annotations. An interesting administrative record that complements a particularly comprehensive collection documenting Jean-Baptiste Pelluch’s career between 1811 and 1832.
