DESCHARNE (Charles) - Lot 106
DESCHARNE (Charles) Certificate of active service issued to DESCHARNE (Charles), a private in the 8th Light Infantry Regiment, in Mézières, April 7, 1827. Official document, printed and hand-filled out on paper, large folio size (approximately 34 × 22 cm), bearing a revenue stamp, administrative seals, and handwritten signatures. An interesting military certificate from the Restoration period, issued by the Administrative Council of the 8th Light Infantry Regiment, certifying the service of Charles Descharne, born on April 1, 1802, in Lyon (Rhône), son of Jean Descharne and Jeanne Brossard, a peddler by trade. The document specifies that he joined the regiment on October 2, 1826, as a replacement for a man named Nicolas (Antoine) Jeune-Colobat, from the 1825 conscription class of the Isère department. He is listed under a service number in the regiment’s register. Issued in Mézières on April 7, 1827, the certificate is signed by the regiment’s major and countersigned by the military sub-intendant, bearing the regiment’s wet seal and the monarchy’s red revenue stamp. This type of document is particularly sought after for the study of conscription, the military replacement system, and the administration of the French army during the Restoration. Condition: a fine specimen. Preservation creases, some foxing, and slight soiling from use. Tax stamp, seals, and handwritten notes are very well preserved. Very good overall condition.
