COQUELIN CADET (Ernest Coquelin, known as) (1848–1909). Signed autograph letter. Paris, October 12, 1881. Signed autograph letter, 2 pages in-16, dated Paris, October 12, 1881. A kind thank-you letter addressed to Mr. Heuzé, in which the famous actor thanks his correspondent and his parents for the warm welcome he received during his visit to Reims. He writes, in part: “Please thank your parents very much for the charming welcome they gave me during my visit to Reims...” He adds that he has accepted an invitation and concludes with a particularly cordial closing: “Please accept my heartfelt thanks.” The letter ends with: “A cordial handshake,” followed by Coquelin the Younger’s autograph signature. Ernest Coquelin, known as Coquelin the Younger, joined the Comédie-Française in 1867, where he enjoyed a brilliant career before becoming one of the leading figures of French theater in the late 19th century. A witty and popular actor, he performed both the classical repertoire and works by contemporary authors, and was also a lecturer and man of letters. A charming thank-you letter, reflecting Coquelin the Younger’s courtesy toward his hosts in Reims, preserved with his autograph signature.
