NATIONAL CONVENTION. - Lot 90
NATIONAL CONVENTION. Decree ordering the sealing of the papers of persons against whom indictments or arrest warrants have been issued. Paris, 5 Prairial Year III (May 24, 1795). Important official handwritten copy, one folio page, written on printed letterhead of the Department of Paris, reproducing the decree adopted by the National Convention on 5 Prairial Year III. The text prescribes the sealing of the papers and effects of persons subject to a decree of indictment or arrest, whether or not they are members of the Convention. It specifies the procedures for implementing this precautionary measure intended to preserve documents that may be of interest to the national judiciary. The document is certified as a true copy of the original, signed by the president and secretaries of the Convention, and subsequently transmitted by the Commission on Civil Administration, Police, and Courts, with a handwritten certification by Secretary Dupré. One folio-sized page on laid paper with a printed letterhead. Old marginal tears that do not affect the text, original creases, in good condition. Signatures Ramond, acting head of the Commission on Civil Administration, Police, and Courts. Dupré, secretary of the Commission for the Enactment of Laws. Adopted during the final months of the National Convention, this text provides insight into the day-to-day functioning of the revolutionary judicial administration following the end of the Reign of Terror and at a time when the Republic was seeking to permanently reorganize its institutions.
