COLLET (Concordat priest) - Lot 80
COLLET (Concordat priest) Original letter to Citizen Morel. Lyon, 18 Pluviôse, Year X (February 7, 1802). 4 pages in-4 on a double-leaf sheet with a handwritten address on the reverse, wax seal, and postmarks. An interesting letter written in the immediate context of the Concordat negotiations. The author continues his account of Madame Poupier’s illness, describing in detail the patient’s condition, the successive diagnoses, and the concern of those around her. These observations constitute a first-rate document on medical practices and family solidarity in the early 19th century. Collet then discusses several local administrative matters, notably the removal of émigrés from the registry and various procedures under the jurisdiction of the prefectural administration. He also mentions a criminal case involving a former soldier who had returned from Egypt, reflecting the persistent unrest in French society under the Consulate. The letter concludes with reflections on the upcoming developments in religious affairs, which the author expects to be resolved quickly. A highly representative document of daily life in Lyon under the Consulate.
