COLLET (Abbé Jean-Baptiste?) - Lot 73
COLLET (Abbé Jean-Baptiste?) Letter from the author to Citizen Morel. Lyon, 13 Prairial, Year X (June 2, 1802). 4 pages, in-4 format, on a double-leaf sheet. Address on the reverse with postmarks and traces of a wax seal. An important letter concerning various matters of property and inheritance. Collet acts as an intermediary and advisor in several proceedings regarding his correspondent’s assets. In particular, he details an inheritance claim, the steps taken with court officials, and the difficulties related to the statute of limitations on claims. The correspondent also discusses the administrative consequences of the Revolution on private fortunes and the transformations in Lyon society. Several passages address the situation of the clergy after the Concordat and local reactions to the religious reorganization sought by Bonaparte. The highly personal tone of this letter offers insight into the relationship of trust between a clergyman who had returned to compliance with the Concordat and a Parisian landowner who had remained detached from his provincial interests. A well-preserved copy, with the address and shipping marks.
