CHAUMEIX (André) (1874–1955). - Lot 69
CHAUMEIX (André) (1874–1955). Original photograph, inscribed and signed. Paris, undated [circa 1930]. Original black-and-white photographic print, approximately 23 × 17 cm, depicting a three-quarter-length portrait of André Chaumeix from the waist up, wearing a dark suit. The portrait was taken by the famous Henri Manuel studio (Paris), whose signature is printed on the negative at the bottom of the photograph. Founded in the early 20th century, the Henri Manuel studio served as the official portrait photographer for numerous political, literary, and artistic figures of the interwar period. A beautiful autographed dedication at the bottom of the photograph: “To Maurice Courtoz, a friendly memento from his colleague,” followed by the autograph signature: And. Chaumeix. A journalist, literary critic, and member of the Académie française, André Chaumeix served successively as editor-in-chief of the *Journal des Débats* and then the *Revue des Deux Mondes*. Elected to the Académie française in 1930 to succeed Raymond Poincaré, he was one of the most influential figures in French literary criticism during the first half of the 20th century. An elegant portrait, combining the expertise of the Henri Manuel studio with a warm handwritten dedication by André Chaumeix to one of his collaborators.
