CHAMBÉRY (Savoie). A significant pharmaceutical collection belonging to the Countess of Gilly, comprising medication records, accounts, and correspondence from the traveling apothecary Boisset. A collection of approximately 9 documents, handwritten on paper, covering the years 1786 to 1795, drafted and signed by Boisset, a traveling apothecary in Chambéry. An extensive medical file documenting nearly a decade of treatments administered to the Countess of Gilly, a member of the Savoyard aristocracy. The collection includes: a voluminous record of medications dispensed; several account statements and expense reports; an autograph letter signed by Boisset; summaries of payments and balances; detailed lists of numerous pharmaceutical preparations. Among the remedies are, notably: licorice; Tronchin’s mixture; clarified pectorals; water lily water; Hoffmann’s mineral drops; purified dandelion juice; white looch from Paris; citrine lemonade; essential quinine salt (quinquina); laxatives; anthelmintics; opiate preparations; custom-made emulsions and potions. Taken together, this collection constitutes an exceptional source of information on pharmaceutical practice among the Savoyard aristocracy in the late 18th century.
