BERTHIER (Alexandre). - Lot 51
BERTHIER (Alexandre). Signed letter regarding Captain Alix’s assignment to the general staff of the 2nd Division. Dresden, July 11, 1813. Signed letter, 1 folio page, dated Dresden, July 11, 1813, addressed to the Duke of Vicenza, Minister of War. An interesting military letter written during the German campaign of 1813. Alexandre BERTHIER, Prince of Neuchâtel, Major General of the Grande Armée and chief aide to Napoleon I, informs the minister that, following a request forwarded to him, he has ordered Captain Alix to report to camp to serve on the general staff of the 2nd Division. The text provides insight into the day-to-day operations of the imperial command at the heart of the Saxon campaign, a few weeks before the major battles of the fall of 1813. It illustrates Berthier’s essential role in organizing the assignments of officers in the Grande Armée. Beautiful autograph signature of Alexandre BERTHIER (Louis-Alexandre). Condition: a few creases, minor foxing, and signs of wear. The letter was historically mounted on heavy paper; the reverse side cannot be examined without restoration work. The text remains perfectly legible.
