BÉRAUD (Antoine-Nicolas, known as Antony) (1792–1860) - Lot 50
BÉRAUD (Antoine-Nicolas, known as Antony) (1792–1860) Signed autograph letter, Paris, April 29, 1853. One-page autograph letter (in-8), dated April 29, 1853, signed “Antony-Béraud,” with handwritten address: 3, rue Saint-Lazare. Dry stamp at the top. In very good condition. A friendly note addressed to a close friend, written in a particularly warm tone. In it, Antony Béraud expresses his hope to meet with his correspondent later that day and refers to a theatrical performance of *La Juive*, the famous opera by Fromental Halévy, as well as to Carl Maria von Weber’s *Le Freischütz*, for which he requests a copy of the score or the piano reduction (“a valid ticket for *Le Freischütz*, or something with a similar German name, Weber’s masterpiece”). The author then announces his visit that afternoon before concluding with a particularly cordial expression of affection: “All yours.” An illustrator, playwright, historian, and writer, Antony Béraud participated in the final Napoleonic campaigns before devoting himself to literature. The author of numerous historical works and several plays performed on Parisian stages, he directed the Théâtre de l’Ambigu from 1839 to 1849 and was an active participant in the artistic and literary circles of the 19th century. A lovely letter illustrating the personal relationships and artistic interests of a man of the theater during the Second Empire.
