BACON (Charles). - Lot 43
BACON (Charles). Autograph letter signed “To my old friend Lubin.” Paris, 10 rue Poussin, January 69 [probably 1969]. 1 page, in-4 format (approx. 27 × 21 cm), black ink on laid paper. An interesting letter in which Charles Bacon discusses his literary and theatrical projects, the difficulties of a collaboration, and several mutual acquaintances. He opens his letter with: “My old friend Lubin, I made one last effort to secure your collaboration. It was to no avail… ” The author goes on to express regret over the failure of this endeavor, which he describes as “despairing,” before mentioning Hamlet, on which he would like to continue or expand his work: “… regarding Hamlet’s life… ” He then returns to the subject of Jean Louis, whom he describes as having become “the victim,” and announces a new project or publication: “Another time we’ll have better luck… with a new play…” The letter also mentions J. L., who is now “in possession of your manuscripts,” as well as a person tasked with handing them over to him “in front of a few ‘pets’” (reading uncertain). In the final lines, Bacon shares news about Jean-Pierre, mentions his correspondent’s “little one,” and concludes on a friendly note: “I saw M.; her photograph was very beautiful—watch out!—so give her a kiss for me. See you soon, anyway, huh! Best regards.” Beautiful autograph signature by Charles Bacon, spanning the entire width of the bottom of the page. Condition: original horizontal and vertical center folds, paper slightly creased, very good condition.
