AMBERT (Jean-Jacques) (1765–1851) Signed autograph letter, Fourmies, June 30, 1807. Autograph signed letter (L.A.S.) of 4 pages, in-4 format, dated Fourmies, June 30, 1807, signed “Ernouf,” addressed to General Jean-Jacques Ambert, then a major general in the Imperial Armies. An important letter forming part of an ongoing correspondence regarding the dispute between General Ernouf and several of his adversaries. The author informs General Ambert of the judgment rendered in this case, with which he declares himself satisfied, while announcing that he has filed a formal protest to preserve all of his rights. He discusses at length the consequences of this decision, detailing the steps taken with the authorities, the testimonies gathered, and the various accusations leveled against him. He outlines his defense strategy, emphasizes the need to have his rightful claim recognized, and expresses his confidence in General Ambert’s support to ensure the success of his efforts. The letter concludes with an expression of his deep gratitude and profound affection for the general, to whom he renews his most devoted regards.
