CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. - Lot 29
CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. Decree appointing Jean-Baptiste Pellut to the position of brigade captain in Entre-deux-Guiers (Belley Directorate). Belley, July 23, 1831. Important printed appointment decree, 1 folio sheet, printed on two pages, with handwritten notes, original administrative signatures, official seals, and a court registration stamp. Official document from the Customs Administration appointing Jean-Baptiste Pellut, born in Reims on August 7, 1777, to the position of brigade captain in Entre-deux-Guiers, in the Belley District, with the appointment taking effect as of September 1, 1831. The document notes his seniority in the administration, with his service counting toward retirement as of June 1, 1811, and then sets forth the detailed regulations defining the duties of a brigade captain: supervision of officers, customs enforcement, drafting of reports, oversight of brigades, personnel discipline, and administration of the oath of office. The reverse side bears the handwritten registration endorsement from the clerk’s office of the Belley Court of First Instance, certifying the individual’s swearing-in, accompanied by the official seal and the clerk’s signature. A particularly interesting official document illustrating Jean-Baptiste Pellut’s promotion to the rank of brigade captain, a significant milestone in his career within the French Customs Service. It is part of an exceptional collection tracing his administrative career spanning the First Empire, the Restoration, and the July Monarchy. A fine example despite some original creases resulting from storage and a few very slight signs of wear, with no damage to the text or signatures.
