CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. - Lot 26
CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. Decree of February 8, 1825. Printed commission with handwritten notes, signed. Important official appointment commission concerning Jean-Baptiste Pellut, who is promoted to brigade inspector in the Thionville district. The decree of February 8, 1825, appoints him: “Brigade Inspector, at Rosbrücken, Thionville District,” effective February 1, 1825. The document lists his personal details and length of service: Jean-Baptiste Pellut; born on August 7, 1777, in Reims (Marne); joined the Customs Administration on June 1, 1811. Like all commissions in this series, the interior lists the regulatory duties associated with the position of brigade inspector: supervising staff, collecting customs duties, border patrol, drafting reports, maintaining discipline, enforcing customs laws and regulations, taking the oath of office, and administrative responsibility. On the reverse is the official acceptance of the commission by the Thionville directorate, recorded on March 19, 1825, with the director’s handwritten signature, certifying the appointment’s implementation. This document marks an important milestone in Pellut’s career, as he rose to one of the principal intermediate ranks in the customs administration after several years of service as a lieutenant of the order. Satisfactory condition. A few original creases, very light soiling, and slight signs of wear. Handwritten signatures, a printed 75-centime tax stamp, and an administrative receipt stamp on the reverse. A particularly interesting career document that traces Jean-Baptiste Pellut’s professional progression within the Customs Administration during the Restoration.
