CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. - Lot 24
CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. Decree appointing Jean-Baptiste Pellut as mounted lieutenant in Buironfosse (Charleville District). Paris, February 12, 1819 (effective January 1, 1819). Official printed document with significant handwritten notes, 4 folio pages on laid paper, signed by the Councilor of State and Director General of Customs and bearing the administrative endorsements of the Charleville Directorate. Decree appointing Jean-Baptiste Pellut, born in Reims on August 7, 1777, to the rank of mounted lieutenant, assigned to the Buironfosse post (Aisne), within the Charleville Customs Directorate. The document specifies that this promotion takes effect as of January 1, 1819, and notes the seniority of the appointee, who joined the Customs Administration on June 1, 1811. The printed text lists the duties associated with this position: supervising patrols, monitoring the performance of duties, drafting violation reports, training staff, maintaining discipline, taking an oath before the justice of the peace, and registering the oath with the appropriate authorities. The last page bears handwritten registration endorsements from the Charleville Customs Directorate, dated March 6, 1819, certifying that the decision was carried out. A very interesting administrative document illustrating the career progression of a customs officer during the Restoration. This appointment marks Jean-Baptiste Pellut’s latest promotion within the hierarchy of the mobile brigades and is part of a collection of documents chronicling more than twenty years of service within the Customs Administration. In good condition. Original handling creases, very slight foxing, and minimal marginal wear without affecting the text or signatures. The document is well-preserved and highly legible.
