CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. - Lot 23
CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION. Official letter of appointment addressed to Jean-Baptiste Pellut upon his appointment as brigade captain in Entre-deux-Guiers (Belley District). Paris, September 24, 1831. Official printed letter with significant handwritten notes, 1 folio page on laid paper, signed by the Director of the Customs Administration. Notification addressed to Jean-Baptiste Pellut, then a Customs employee residing in Paris, informing him of his appointment to the position of brigade captain at the Entre-deux-Guiers office, within the Belley District, with an annual salary set at 1,500 francs. The document specifies that the appointee must report to his new post without delay, with his salary effective as of October 1, 1831, subject to his actual arrival within the prescribed time limit. It constitutes the administrative notification following the official appointment decision. This is a very interesting piece of personnel management documentation that concretely illustrates the procedures for assigning customs officers during the July Monarchy. It ideally complements the appointment decrees and commissions preserved in the same collection dedicated to the career of Jean-Baptiste Pellut, allowing one to track his various transfers and promotions. In good condition. Original creases from handling, slight foxing, and minor signs of wear that do not affect the document’s perfect legibility.
