NOTARIAL DEED. - Lot 18
NOTARIAL DEED. Handwritten power of attorney on parchment concerning a matter of inheritance and legal representation. Manuscript on parchment, 4 pages in-4, dated August 20, 1680, written in Old French. Contains several notarial signatures and handwritten signatures. Flexible parchment, folded; shows signs of old creases, small marginal losses, and normal wear and tear without significantly affecting legibility. Legal document drawn up before a notary during the reign of Louis XIV. The document constitutes a power of attorney by which a party authorizes a representative to defend his interests in a matter concerning an estate and various assets. The text refers to several heirs and beneficiaries, as well as the formalities required to pursue proceedings before the competent courts. The wording, typical of 17th-century notarial practice, preserves the customary legal formulas in effect at the time. The numerous references to individuals, family ties, and inherited property provide insight into the administration of estates under the Ancien Régime. This document is of interest for the history of private law, genealogy, and the study of 17th-century French notarial practice. Dated August 20, 1680.
