[Unidentified physician] - Lot 17
[Unidentified physician] Signed autograph letter, Paris, circa 1915. 3-page autograph letter in-8, written on letterhead from 11 Place des États-Unis, undated (circa 1915). Signature unidentified. An important medical letter addressed to a colleague regarding the treatment of a war casualty. The author details the patient’s clinical progression, describes the various surgical procedures, and discusses the therapeutic methods employed. In particular, he compares the protocols proposed by several practitioners, including Dr. Neumann, and examines guidelines regarding dressings, local care, and postoperative monitoring. The author also mentions several specialists consulted and considers the best course of action in a particularly complex case, while noting in a postscript an improvement in the patient’s general condition despite the persistence of certain complications. This document provides an interesting account of scientific exchanges among physicians during World War I, at a time when advances in military surgery and traumatology were leading to profound changes in medical practices.
